2 cups whole wheat flour (or gluten-free flour if your dog has allergies)
1/2 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup natural peanut butter (make sure it doesn’t contain xylitol)
1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
1/4 cup water (more if needed)
Instructions:
Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Mix dry ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour and oats. Stir them together to blend evenly.
Add wet ingredients: Add the peanut butter and applesauce to the dry mixture. Slowly pour in water as you stir. If the dough seems dry, add a little more water until it forms a firm, rollable dough.
Roll out the dough: On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thick. Use a bone-shaped cookie cutter (or any shape you like) to cut out the treats.
Bake the bones: Place the cut-out bones on your prepared baking sheet. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the bones are golden brown and crispy.
Cool and serve: Let the dog bones cool completely before giving them to your pup. Store them in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.
